The company was founded in 2006 as Townsend’s Tea Company when founder Matt Thomas opened his first tea house in Portland, Oregon. Today, the company consists of three operating businesses: Brew Dr. Kombucha, Townshend’s Tea Company, and Townshend’s Distillery.
Townshend’s Tea Company is a retailer with nine locations in Oregon, Montana, and Utah. Townshend’s Distillery utilizes the alcohol byproduct from the kombucha fermentation process to produce botanical craft spirits. The spirits line has received numerous national awards and can be found in Oregon, Washington, California, Illinois, and Oklahoma.
